Each of the public holidays listed in Botswana shall be a paid public holiday. These are: 1 January (New Year), 2 April - 5 April (Easter), 1 May (Labour Day), 13 May (Ascension Day), 1 July (Sir Seretse Khama Day), 20 July (President's Day), 30 September (Botswana Day), 25 December - 26 December (Christmas)

  • Where a paid public holiday falls on a rest day (for example, a Sunday),  the day following the rest day shall be a paid public holiday.
  • Any employee who works on a paid public holiday shall be paid at least double the wages he or she would have been paid had the day been an ordinary working day; orbe granted a paid day off within 10 days immediately thereafter.
  • Any employer who contravenes this section shall be guilty of an offence and liable to penalties.
