Minimum Wages in South Africa with effect from 01-01-2018 to 30-11-2018

1. The National Minimum Wage Act  came into force from January 1, 2019. The National Minimum Wage Act sets South Africa’s first National Minimum Wage at R20 an hour, equivalent to R3,500 per month. 
2. Area A includes -  City of Cape Town, Greater East Rand Metro, City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Nelson Mandela. Local Council: Emfuleni, Merafong, Mogale City, Metsimaholo, Randfontein, Stellenbosch, Westonaria  
3. Area B includes - KwaZulu-Natal excluding any area covered by a bargaining council agreement.
4. Area C includes - rest of South Africa
5. Area B: The rates applicable are those as prescribed by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Contract Cleaning Bargaining Council.

1. Minimum Wages of domestic workers in South Africa is divided in two parts. 
   • Minimum wages for workers who work more than 27 ordinary hours per week
   • Minimum wages for workers who work 27 ordinary hours per week or less

1. Minimum Wage rate of Control or Communication Centre Officer is as per the relevant security officer grading
2. Minimum Wage rate for Controller is as per the Clericial Assistant. 
3. Area A: Alberton, Bellville, benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Camperdown, Chatsworth, Durban, Germiston, Goodwood, Inanda, Johannesburg, Kempton Park, Krugersdrop, Kuils River, Mitchell’s Plain, Niger, Oberholzer, Paarl, Pinetown, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Randburg, Randfontein, Roodepoort, Sasolburg, Simon’s Town, Springs, The Cape, Uitenhage, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeninging, Westonaria, Wonderboom and Wynberg
4. Area B: Bloemfontein, East London, Kimberley, Klerksdorp, Pietermaritzburg, Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Strand
5. Area C: All other areas not specified elsewhere. 
6. Maximum permissible working hours per week for each respective category of employee subject to clause 5(2), with regard to averaging of working hours 
   • Work hours for artisan, clerical assistant, clerk, controller, driver, generral worker, handyman, and employees not else where specified is 45 hours per week
   • Work hours for control or communication centre officer and security officer is 48 hours per week.

1. Rank marshals’ minimum wage will increase monthly from R2,564.33 to R2,728.45; weekly from R591.81 to R629.68 and hourly from R12.32 to R13.11

2. Minimum wages increased by CPI (excluding owners equivalent rent) as released by STATSSA six weeks prior to the increment date (6.2%) + 1.5% = 7.7%).

3. Boarding Allowances: 

If an employer requires an employee to sleep over at a place other than where the employee resides, the employer must either-

(a) Pay the employee the amount as reflected in table 2 below per night; or

(b) Reimburse the employee's reasonable expenses; or

(c) With the agreement of the employee, accommodate the employee in reasonable accommodation
